Today, Congo Safari .com brings you links for travel advice, hotels, accommodation, myths and legends in the state of Texas in the United States of America.
Texas is the state with the second largest area and the second largest population. Before Alaska joined the union, Texas was the largest state and Texans still traditionally claim that everything in Texas is bigger and better than anywhere else, although nowadays the claims are often made with tongue in cheek.
Texas is rich in history, most famously because of the defence of the Alamo mission by Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. It is also rich in myths and legends, most notably tales of Pecos Bill with his horse Widow Maker and his true love Slue-Foot Sue. The state is notable for its cattle ranches and oilfields, both to the fore in the hit TV series Dallas. Known as the Lone Star State because of its flag, Texas could be equally symbolized by stetsons and longhorn cattle.
The wildlife of Texas, although diminished in quantity, is still varied, ranging from alligators in the east to black bears in the north and to mountain lions in the west.
